Featured Satellite Staff: Ian Berry

Share

This month’s featured staff member is Ian Berry, the Community Manager at Satellite Workplace & Digital Media Studio in Santa Cruz, CA.

What’s your background?

Right now it’s some plants, a wall, and a monitor. I kid! I began my academic career at De Anza College and then transferred to the University of California, Santa Cruz where I majored in Film and Digital Media. My major both emphasized production and theory, so I felt like I had the best of both worlds.

What do you love about working at Satellite Workplaces?

My favorite thing about Satellite Workplaces is that every day is different from the last and I get to use my creativity and wit to solve problems and make people’s lives easier.

What’s something you’re excited about right now?

I watched a video recently about a mysterious Cambrian worm fossil (Hallucigenia) that had scientists confused for over 50 years. They had no idea which side the creature walked on! Now, after finding more fossils of hallucigenia, scientists have a much better understanding of what hallucigenia looked like and how its locomotion works. Absolutely fascinating!

Tell us about yourself outside of work:

The world is my burrito and I love every bit of it. I’m really interested in learning about art, movies, music, history, socio-economic policy, physical anthropology, Bigfoot, Dinosaurs, Synapsids, UFOs, spooky stuff, and Godzilla!
